Excited to share that we are up to 568 signers on our petition to get the lead out of Lake Tahoe!
A huge thank you to everyone supporting our community effort to complete this critical removal work, as well as the San Francisco Chronicle for their front page story on the situation last week. We saw an immediate boost in signers following this article demonstrating the focus of people across California
Over the past few months we’ve been fortunate to engage with all 7 government agencies required to authorize this project. We’re grateful for their time, consideration and partnership. As we continue to move through these processes, the broad public support is inspiring, influential and appreciated as we bring people together around this multi-generational issue for the water
Our efforts are aimed directly at execution. As stated in our petition, we want these cables removed regardless of the precise amount of lead leaching out. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has a “zero tolerance” for lead in sources of drinking water, which Lake Tahoe has been for years. These lead cables could pose a potential threat over the long term, and given they are no longer in use we don’t view this as a risk worth taking
